Introduction:

Thank you for downloading 'Liero: Assassin Edition'. This is my first complete mod for Liero 1.33 by Joosa. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I have enjoyed making it. I would first like to say that you can give this mod to all your friends provided you don't modify it first. If you want to use a graphic, weapon or sound in a mod of your own please contact me first and I'm sure we can work something out.

Weapon changes:

The main difference between this mod and the original is the weapons. The weapons fall into three categories: some are brand new, some are improved and some are unmodified. The reason I left original weapons in the mod is because I cant, and shouldn't try to, improve on what is clearly a great weapon. Here is a list of all the weapons in the mod and details as to which of the three categories each falls into.

Bazooka:
Unmodified

Big nuke:
The nuke bits now have a shorter fuse, making for a faster and therefore more useful weapon

Blaster:
The blaster now explodes on impact with a worm, this is because I found the blaster was being neglected and yet it is a great weapon in its own right.

Bomb:
The bomb is a 'new' weapon, roughly based on the explosives with a short range and short reload time.

Booby trap:
Unmodified

Cathrne wheel:
Correctly spelt 'Catherine wheel' (but to fit it in I had to cut the name) this weapon is based on the popular firework of the same name. In effect, it is a hovering crackler that lasts slightly longer.

Chaingun:
The chaingun now has a cool firing sound and slightly modified damage and reload time.

Cluster bomb:
The original cluster bomb I found is a week version of the Chiquita bomb and a more powerful grenade, so I got rid of its clones and made it more powerful to take their places.

Dart:
The original dart was mocked and discredited in spite of its hidden power. Despite numerous attempts to increase this weapons popularity (often with fatal examples) it was doomed to stay on the shelf alongside the dirtball and the grasshopper. The new dart does the same sum damage but instead of spreading it over five shots its damage is now spread over three.

Doomsday:
Unmodified (could anyone improve the mighty doomsday? I think not.)

Flamer:
Now has slightly longer range.

Float mine:
Like the dart, it has the same overall damage but now spread over three shots. The new float mine now sticks to the wall.

G Raider:
Anti-gravity Hell Raider, just a little more useful than its predecessor.

Gauss gun:
After promising my self that I would not touch the legendary Gauss, I changed it only very slightly; it is now not affected by gravity (for the accurate shot) and now spews 2 splinters on explosion rather than one (allowing a kill with two shots if all the splinters hit).

Greenball:
In an attempt to revamp the condemned greenball, the new version is much faster and more accurate.

Heavy MG:
The Heavy Machine-gun is a 'new' weapon, and although some claim that it is almost the same as the chaingun, it is in fact quite different with much more damage per shot, a slower fire rate and a longer reload time. This weapon was inspired by the Heavy MG from 'Soldier of Fortune TM'.

Larpa:
Unmodified.

Laser:
Unmodified
NOTE: I had a big problem with the laser early in development, if you aimed down and fired while falling you could hurt your self. This had me stumped for many a late night until I realized that by changing the gfx mod back to the original the problem would cease. To this day I don't know what it was in the gfx mod that causes this bug but by cutting and pasting my modifications into the original graphics mod I was able to avoid it. So I suggest you try the same if you come across this problem.

Machine gun:
A replacement for the minigun, this weapon's bullets are faster and more accurate.

Mine:
Unmodified

Missile:
Unmodified (to change it would make it too powerful or too week)

Napalm:
I wanted to make this weapon more powerful so that more people would use it but to make it more powerful makes it too powerful (it killed with one shot, which is by the way possible with the original if you are skilled) so it remains unmodified apart from its flames lasting a little longer.

Ninja stars:
One of my first and best weapons, think: spikeballs meet doomsday.

Plague:
The deadly black plague now comes in a spray can! This one is hard to see so watch for the buzzing flies... Use this weapon when you are being chased down a tunnel, its hard to see and will kill a worm on %100 if all of the virus hits.

Powerball:
This bolt of energy is slow but powerful, it will disintegrate the dirt in its immediate path but looses power as it does so, eventually destroying its self in the process.

Pressure hose:
This is a variation on the fan, washing away dirt and hurting the enemy. Don't get caught against a wall when the hose is on you!

Pyrocon:
My favorite new weapon, when first used against an enemy their last words are often "its so beautiful..." this one packs a punch so watch it!

Rifle:
The new rifle is the old Winchester with a laser sight.

Scorcher:
Two powerful rockets that rain fire from the skies.

Shield:
Another favorite, this dirtball replacement disintegrates after the danger has passed (I saw the same disintegration idea in a weapon plugin but I stress that I had made mine before I saw the other).

Shotgun:
Unmodified:

Silenced SMG:
A modified Uzi with more bullets and a consequential longer reload time.

Silver rain:
Another firework-based weapon, the silver rain shoots two rockets, each filled with silent phosphorus partials that rain down on an un-suspecting enemy.

Skyrocket:
This weapon was the first made for this mod; a single accelerating rocket explodes into partials that then explode a second time into coloured partials. Use this one on your enemy as they fly through the air, collecting the shrapnel as they go.

Sniper rifle:
Although a very unoriginal concept, the sniper rifle is a valuable admission to the game with one, deadly accurate shot.

Spikeballs:
The new spikeballs are the same as the old except that they are thrown in two shots not one.

Star shell:
Another favorite, this slow flare-like mortar rains partials thick and fast.

Super shotgun:
Unmodified

Vox:
A single bouncy laser beam that does a fair amount of damage while maintaining a reasonable reload time. Watch the kick back...
NOTE: like the shield I have seen a similar version of this weapon but I stress that it is not a copy.

Zimm:
The zimm now has three shots while keeping the same overall damage.

Strategies

[) Use the G raider's bouncy and anti-gravity properties in conjunction to get someone above you by bouncing it around the corner.

[) When your opponent is far below, select the napalm and aim skyward. Then fall directly above him and fire just before hitting the ground. With accuracy you will kill the enemy and bounce clear of the explosion.

[) The pressure hose is a very practical weapon for both defense and attack, you can also use it as a jetpack to fly for a little way.

[) Chase the other worm down dirt tunnels with the sky rocket or silver rain, they are X10 as effective in enclosed spaces and will also clear a lot of dirt.

[) Jump when throwing a weapon to throw it further.

[) The bomb had a hidden feature; stand facing dirt and throw it and it will sink through the dirt behind you.

Thanks too...

Gliptic for the great editing program Lierokit
Gerd Torbjrg mdal for the chaingun sound from his 'trapasak' sound mod
John Chase for allowing the use of his font 'compact' in assassin edition.
